The Art of Games Exhibition


Finally have some time to update this blog a little. We just got back from a few (much needed!) vacations this summer, most notable of which was our trip to Italy for the Art of Games exhibition! I have a few pieces in the gallery along with many other notable industry artists.

We had an unforgettable time at the show, enjoying the beautiful scenery in the Valle D'Aosta, and making new friends.

Character Design Vol 2: The Hero


The second installment of my Character Design series is now available through Massive Black.

In this video I cover my thought process when designing hero characters for video games. I demonstrate by drawing three different hero characters with different goals in mind for each character. In addition to some basic digital painting tips, I spend a lot of time on theory so that the viewer can see where my concepts are coming from. Drawing is only half of Concept Art (the art half), so I really try to stress the concept half.

ConceptArt.Org Dallas Workshop

Hey everyone. ConceptArt.org is hosting another of it's workshops. This time it's in Dallas, Texas at the end of March.

For those of you not familiar with the workshops, they are geared toward people interested in art, illustration, and entertainment art and is open to professionals, students, and hobbyists alike.

ConceptArt.org is a non profit organization dedicated to helping both new and experienced artists grow and evolve as well as help protect artists from a rapidly changing (and not always friendly) industry environment. Playboy (NSFW)

I got the chance to get a piece into Playboy this past December. This is a piece I did at MassiveBlack for Deep Silver's Ride to Hell. This image was featured in Playboy's "Girl's of Gaming" in their December 08 issue. I also have to give props to Shon Mitchell for modeling out that chopper and Chris Hatala for the 3D posing.

Dragon Age: Origins

BioWare, creators of Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, and Neverwinter Nights is releasing a new game IP soon called Dragon Age.

The first installment, Dragon Age: Origins is slated for a late 2009 release.

Here are some illustrations I did at Massive Black for their marketing campaign, which focuses on the different Origin stories that the player can choose (and play) when starting the game.

Massive Black Volume 1


Massive Black
has released it's first artbook which is being published by Ballistic Publishing. We have a LOT of art in here, much of which has not been published beforehand.
